Here is one of my squash fields, the battle between me and the squash bugs is in full swing..i am constantly killing adults and ripping leaves off with the eggs, for those that do not know, when you crush the eggs on the leaf it emits a disease the same as if the bugs are injecting a pathogen into the plant itself, so I rip a section of leaf off holding the eggs, the plants can handle it this is the best method I have found, also make sure to put them into a bucket of water and let it sit to kill the eggs completly. The disease is similar to a wilt, it browns he laves and turns them crispy. I hope to get some like this again, notice that some are not ripe? for those who don't think they will get ripe I assure you that almost every thing under ripe in there DID get ripe in storage. Sometimes you do not have a choice and have to pick early because of hard freeze or frost, I can tell you first hand if you try to eat a Golden pipin under ripe, you will swear you have been poisoned!! That very same squash ripened in a few weeks will be the sweetest thing you ever ate!!
